Meegammana Royal Temple is situated in the central part of Sri Lanka in Wattegamma, which is 15 km away from the historic city of Kandy. The Meegammana Royal Temple was built in the 18th century, and according to the “Tampita Vihara System” (temple on pillars). It is one the few “Tampita Vihara” temples in Sri Lanka…and most have been replaced by existing temple buildings.
Today, Meegammana Royal Temple conducts numerous educational programs. These programs are specifically designed for villagers desiring to maintain spiritual values, which improve human relations and positive states of mind.
Both“Sri Pagnangnasara Daham Pasala” (Sunday school) and Pre-school are conducted by the Temple and which influence all children in the village with the basic Buddhist teachings of compassion and gratitude. Also, through the“Lak Daruwo” educational program, Information Technology and English is taught at the Temple.
