Exoteric: We always borrow a filter through exoteric studies—We always ask who is the founder, and what is their perspective, but as long as we follow someone else’s theory, the teaching is not ours. It is natural to develop out of the foundation of somebody, but we must become a founder ourselves by seeing through our own “goggles.”
Which angle, which perspective, or “goggles” do you want to see through?
How do you shift your perspective to see something differently?
What makes you live, what makes you help people?
How can we gain intelligence out of every moment?
That is the difference between exoteric and esoteric.
Shyakamuni chose to see through the lens of suffering and became specialist in suffering. Kukai wanted to be nationally recognized so he learned the law of the universe through Mikkyo. Newton was curious about the formula. He found the law of gravity. What kind of social status doesn’t matter—if you believe in your power and stick with something, the people will stick with you.
